DeadGate
Zyxel Prestige P643 ADSL router
Description
ADSL Gateway, provided (and a bit rebranded) by my ISP. Although at first sight I thought was a simple 'black-box', later a discovered a full feature set on it, from which I learnt many things.
In deed, a part of a intereseting CLI interface and a serial console port, it provided some interesting features:
- QoS
- Firewall / NAT
- Routing priorities
- SysLog
- SNMP monitoring
- …
The hostName
Not much, is gateway and deadgate was a location on game I use to play on those days.
Role
Main core-firewall-router, as during some time was the only network equipment I had.
History
This one was the first ADSL router and the first firewall router I had (before the only network device I had was a simple 10Mbps Hub). With the fact that I had a Static IP assignment all Lady 3Jane started here as I tried to provide services from that IP: the domain, web, mail … on 1Mbps downstream ADSL1 line ;)
Retired when started to fail to sync the DSL connneciton. (Also it was ADSL1, so now will not be able to use it)
