No special meaning. The name of network equipment is usually a mnemonic indicatig its function AXis and its location.

We use the term Axis to refer to network equipment which no only is the center (main gateway) of the network, but it also offers network support related services like DHCP, DNS, NTP, and so on…

Services:

  • Main gateway
  • VPN concentrator (OpenVPN)
  • DHCP
  • Wireless AP
  • NTP server
  • TFTP for some BOOTP clients
  • Firewall

After we move the home ADSL line to FTTH] (Fiber access), we got the ONT ([[wp>Network_interface_device|Optical Network Terminal and a quite ugly and sucking wireless router. As our previous Axis didn't had wireless and we need full Gigabit networking, I adquired this device to replace it.

Architecture
CPU 600MHz
Memory 128Mb
Storage 128Mb internal NAND
OS RouterOS 6
Networking 5 FastEthernet + 5 GigabitEthernet + 802.11b/g/n + SFP
