Ender
Description
Ender is a PlugComputer. The second I have after the crash of my previous SheevaPlug. I liked very much the idea of a very small, powerfull server (this was was time before the appearence the RaspBerryPi's and the boom of SoC and Development boards).
Although quite expensvie given the prices of a current SBC and with small memory and/or CPU, it offers some other features not generally availabe on other devices for that times like the Dual Gigabit ports, WiFi and Bluetooth.
The hostName
The hostname is obviously taken form Ender's Game
Role
This servers take the role of the main 'domain' reference, providing internal network infrastructure services:
- DNS
- LDAP
- Samba Master Browser
- TFTP (For BOOTP and recovery builds)
History
This system has always played the same role in the domain, not much to history than this.
Only remarkable that one day failed totally and after disassembling it I found that a small capacitor melted over the internal (main) microSD card. Surprisingly, I replaced the microSD card, removed the melted capacitor and after resintalling the OS is still working without issues since more 2 years ago.
